These spectacular seven days of wildlife wonders begin in Tanzania’s safari capital and take you through the best national parks in the world, with a day hike on Mount Kilimanjaro. Lions and cheetahs, elephants and buffaloes, as well as fascinating birdlife, all in incredible environments, provide the highlights.
Tarangire is filled with giants — baobab trees all across the park, and elephants, lots of them. You can also see lions, cheetahs, leopards, wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes and zebras amid river woodland, open plains and rolling hills.
Track down the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra and spot predators and prey across vast horizons, with flat-topped acacia trees silhouetted against the setting sun and so many other classic African safari images.
Enjoy some more game viewing before leaving the Serengeti National Park at around noon for the Ndutu area. This region features cool-climate forests with views of craters and cliffs, and wildlife such as forest elephants, buffaloes and — if you are lucky — leopards.
Visit one of the most beautiful natural sights in Africa, where the morning mist rolls up and over the crater rim. The crater floor shelters lions and hyenas, elephants and black rhinos, flamingos and golden jackals, plus forests and hippo lakes.
Experience elephants suddenly emerging from behind the nearest tree in the dense forest, lions draped along a branch high in a tree and plenty of baboons, in a setting of lake, forest and sheer cliffs.
Your hike through the beautifully rugged landscape of the Shira Plateau runs from 3,500 m to 3,962 m above sea level — the highest plateau in the world — with views of Kibo peak and neighbouring Amboseli.
Visit waterfalls more than 80 metres high with an inviting pool for a refreshing swim. Enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch and local banana beer, then learn how coffee is grown, dried and roasted, accompanied by Chagga songs and dances.
