Safari Overview
In six days, you will visit all the major safari national parks in the north of Tanzania. You will have plenty of time for extensive animal watching and the opportunity to take many great photos. You are at the centre of attention and you are invited to shape with us the daily schedule of your safari.
Safari Itinerary
DAY 1: Welcome to "Karibu" Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be picked up by our driver. You will then be transferred to Materuni Homes for dinner and your overnight stay. You will have time to review your itinerary as the adventure begins early in the morning.
DAY 2: Materuni Waterfalls & Coffee Tour
Materuni is first on your list and upon arrival, you will visit the waterfalls, which are around 40 minute’s walk away. On the way, your guide will inform you about the culture of the Chagga, their village life and explain the surrounding fauna and flora. The views are truly breathtaking, and with some luck, you will see the summit of Kilimanjaro. When you reach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall is an inviting place for a refreshing swim so don‘t forget your swimwear! After the tour, we will experience a traditional Chagga lunch, taste our local banana beer and experience the coffee experience. Before you say goodbye, you can savour coffee and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest. After the tour, you will be transferred to Katiti Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.
DAY 3: Tarangire National Park
Giant baobab trees, bush savannah and the seasonal marshes add to the wonder of this nature reserve. The park is considered one of the best places to view elephants up close. The park is also home to buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests which are always closely followed by a range of predators such as lions. Leopards are seen now and then but cheetahs are rarely spotted. From the open roof of the safari vehicle, you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals. In the late afternoon, you will leave the park and drive to the lodge, where you will overnight.
DAY 4: The Endless Serengeti Plains
The entire day is dedicated to game viewing in the Serengeti. The areas that you visit will depend upon where the migrating herds are. Predators usually follow closely behind the trekking animals and include lions, leopards (in the acacia trees) and cheetahs. During the short rainy season in November and December the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June they return up north. As the migration is completely dependent on the yearly rainfalls, the location of the herds may vary from year to year but your guide will know where to locate the animals and where to see them best.
DAY 5: Ngorongoro Crater - UNESCO World Heritage Site
On this day we go on partly adventurous roads about 600 meters downward into the crater. The crater has a diameter of 17-21 kilometers and is the home of a great animal world. Nearly all the biodiversity of the East African savannah has gathered here, only giraffes and a few other animal species for which the rock faces are too steep do not live in the crater. Depending on the season, 15,000 to 25,000 animals are gathering here, thereof more than two thirds buffaloes, gnus, zebras and gazelles. This large number of grazers also explains why in the crater the largest density of predators in Africa can be found. Beside other predators more than 100 lions live here in several prides. The chances of watching the “Big Five” lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard within just a few hours are here particularly good. In the afternoon it goes up again the steep crater walls and then to the lodge for dinner & overnight.
DAY 6: Lake Manyara National Park
The park is dominated by the lake of the same name, which attracts large colonies of water birds. Particularly impressive are the pink-colored flamingos, but also many other bird species such as cormorants, pelicans or storks can be observed here. A total of about 400 different bird species live in the park. The park is also famous for its tree climbing lions, which are usually found in the central and open part of the park. During the safari you will also see elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos and many other animal species. In the late afternoon you leave the national park and head back to Arusha/JRO.
