A six-day journey that visits all the major safari parks in the north of Tanzania, with extensive game drives and plenty of time for animal watching and photography. You are at the centre of attention, and you are invited to help us shape the daily schedule of your safari.
Pick-up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Materuni Homes for dinner and your overnight stay, with time to review your itinerary before an early start.
A 40-minute walk takes you to the 80-metre Materuni waterfalls, with stories about Chagga village life along the way, and an inviting pool for a refreshing swim. Then enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch, local banana beer and a hands-on coffee experience — from the plant to the cup — overlooking the rainforest.
Giant baobab trees, bush savannah and seasonal marshes characterise this nature reserve. Tarangire is considered one of the best places to see elephants up close, and the park is also home to buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests, followed by predators such as lions; leopards are seen occasionally. From the open roof of your safari vehicle you take in the landscape and watch the animals.
A full day of game viewing, following the migrating herds and the predators — lions, leopards and cheetahs — that shadow them. Migration patterns vary with the seasons and the rainfall.
A 600-metre descent into the UNESCO World Heritage crater, 17–21 km across and home to 15,000–25,000 animals, with a high density of predators including more than 100 lions. Strong chances of seeing the Big Five.
The park is dominated by the lake of the same name, which attracts large colonies of water birds — particularly impressive are the pink flamingos, cormorants, pelicans and storks. About 400 bird species live in the park. Lake Manyara is also famous for its tree-climbing lions, and you can see elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes and hippos. In the afternoon you return to Arusha/JRO.
