Programme jour par jour
-
Jour 1Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp
Drive from Arusha (4 hours) to Londorossi Gate, complete the formalities and trek through undisturbed rainforest to the first camp.
-
Jour 2Forest Camp to Shira Camp 1
Leave the forest for a savannah of tall grasses and heather, crossing streams through rolling hills up to the ridge.
-
Jour 3Shira 1 – Shira 2 – Moir Hut
A gentle walk east across the Shira Plateau towards Kibo's glaciered peak, then on to Moir Hut.
-
Jour 4Moir Hut – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Climb the ridge towards Kibo, pass the “Shark's Tooth” lava formation near the Arrow Glacier and descend to Barranco.
-
Jour 5Barranco – Karanga – Barafu Camp
Climb the steep Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and continue to Barafu, completing the Southern Circuit.
-
Jour 6Barafu Camp – Summit – Mweka Camp
Depart between midnight and 2 a.m. and climb between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers through heavy scree to Stella Point on the crater rim — the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek. Watch the sunrise, then continue about an hour to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Descend via Barafu for lunch and on to Mweka Camp.
-
Jour 7Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Descend to Mweka Park Gate to collect your summit certificates. At lower elevations it can be wet and muddy; shorts and a T-shirt are usually enough, but keep rain gear handy. A vehicle takes you back to your hotel in Moshi.
